In your face poetry, definitely not a song! Views: 2388

I wrote this poem recently whilst processing past experiences, like we do. I posted it on Grimney http://www.thelandofgrimney.co.uk and was interested to hear the responses which were that everyone thought it was a really angry poem. I hadn't thought it was a particularly angry offering and it reminded me that when we put words out there in the public domain, verbally or written, they no longer belong to us but to the people hearing them. Then they take on another life, not necessarily the one you had imagined they would. See what you think.
Where's the Gift?
So a problem comes
with a gift in its hand?
Help me now
to understand.
What good here?
broken hearts and dreams
weeping children
raging screams
of anger, fury, guilt and shame
coming here again, again!
I let them down
They learnt too young
No carefree life
Just smoking gun
the broken family
cast adrift
so show me quickly
where's the gift?
