Guitarfest 2011 Views: 2286

What a day! from 1030 am until 1030pm there was music, music, music. The event was the Guitarfest put on by Graham Steel, event master extraordinarre from Jagz http://jagz.co.uk/ , which took place at South Hill Park in Bracknell. What a day, what a venue!
All day long there was act after act, all of an extraordinary standard. There were workshops, jamming sessions, concert style sessions, sleazy cellar bar mini gigs, open mic acts and then a full on concert in the evening featuring the incredible Antonio Forcione http://www.antonioforcione.com/
Andy did a gig in the cellar bar and then a workshop on slide guitar in standard tuning both of which were really well attended and fabulous. We did a set on the open mic stage which was set up outside in the Atrium cafe, the sun was beating down, the audience were mellow and the whole experience was just terrific.
Of all the acts my favourite (Andy didn't get to see so much cos he was working hard all day!) was Mike Dawes and Amy Turk, http://www.facebook.com/mikedawesamyturk this acoustic guitar and harp duo were totally awesome. They played a mixture of their own beautiful compositions and some brilliant covers. I was almost beside myself though when they played their most excellent interpretation of the theme tune to Diagnosis Murder. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JMoE7xNgP2M&feature=related I am so glad that I am not alone in my guilty adoration of this dreadful, naff, ridiculous but completely brilliant series! If you get the chance check them out, this pair will go far methinks!
As you can tell by the sheer number of enthusiastic adjectives in this blog we had a beastingly good day! Roll on next year!
