Life's inspiration and untangling the dream Views: 2058

Anyone who's known me for a while will know what a disaster area I am when it comes to relationships. Not that that is all bad, I have many a song to show for it as much of the material that drips out of me is autobiographical to a degree. Lots of people who create have reported that the more smoothly life is going the harder it is to be creative. I don't know if I agree with this and look forward to the next period of stability, should one ever occur, to test the theory!
Anyway, when I am writing I do not know whether the current creation is going to be a song, a poem or a story. It unfolds and makes itself known with varying degrees of birthing pangs. One theme that has been recurring lately is that of fairytales. We are told them as children and grow up with these tales internalised and some of our expectations are set. As I have become more bitter and twisted I seriously question these tales whilst I wait for the prince charming I no longer believe exists! Confusing
Here is a poem written recently on this theme.
Untangle the Dream
Throw down your hair
Pull the hero up high
Releasing from prison
The girl with the sigh.
Kissing the frog,
He’s never a prince
Promises mountains
Takes time to convince.
Wicked old witch
Or protection too strong?
Her heart’s broken alone,
Whole with his song
Is the myth of the tale
As the story unfolds
When the heroine waits
For her beau as she’s told.
Imperfect perfection
Prince charming himself
The best specimen
To be found on the shelf.
A velvet gaol and
A long silent scream
With the eyes now wide open
Reality streams.
The fairy-tale ending
Is not as it seems,
Reality check and
Untangle the dream.
