Banging rehearsals and getting audiences out of the house. Views: 2101

We had a seriously, fabulously marvellous rehearsal on Wednesday evening. Misters Le Batt and Le Bass were superb, Andy's fingers were more maggotty then ever (really not a disgusting thing see previous blog 'on my radio') and my voice, even though I do say so myself, was working rather well. Walker Broad, the band, are shaping up very nicely. I love the way the music takes on another form with the extra musical layers. It's still the same music but somehow it is different. Our first outing as a band is on the 14th October (I may have mentioned this before) and I am really looking forward to it!

Something very troubling currently is the difficulty venues have in getting people to attend the gigs and events that are put on. Even the free gigs don't seem to me to be attracting the crowds like they used to. The Southsea Folk and Roots festival (which I am still recovering from!) was a case in point. Although the gigs were ticketted you got to see three real quality acts for a day time ticket for a measly £8 and two for an evening ticket, £10. This is not expensive in terms of hours and hours of brilliant music from brilliant performers! People came but nowhere near as many as were expected. I've been around for loads of discussions as to what the reasons for the reduction in audiences could be and there are loads of theories. Has live music gone out of fashion and will we have to wait for the revival (which will inevitably come) before we start to see audiences turning up again?

Any ideas? What is the reason for the demise? Answers on a postcard or in the comments box please! Smile
