The Happy Go Luckys with the Vortex Buzz Views: 2066

I know I am a hippy chick at heart, but I have very eclectic musical tastes and live music does it for me whatever the genre. This evening it was out to the Edge of the Wedge http://www.wedgewood-rooms.co.uk/TheEdge.aspx for an evening of Garage Rock. The evening was beautifully orchestrated by the wonderful DJ Little Miss Spang who kept the vibe going in the absence of bands.
First up was The Happy Go Luckys http://www.myspace.com/558176447 a two piece with Drummer Haz and front man guitarist/vocalist Elz. What energy, what music and what a sound from these guys. The guitar balance was so good that the absence of a bassist was not really noticeable. They did a couple of covers, notably a Buddy Holly one, but the rest of their set was their own. Really impressive, especially as I think they are only 16 and 18 - correct me if I'm wrong guys!
The Vortex Buzz http://www.myspace.com/thevortexbuzz/music was next and were equally fabulous! They are: Alex Spirrett - Vocals; Mark Smith - Guitar; Iain Lindsey - Bass; Sam Neadley - Drums.Again there was this energy, complete committment to the music and a great set of mixed covers and originals. They really rocked us out! Sam was the drummer for the ex-band
Manila who used to wheel me out now and again to play sax for them - never seen him work so hard as he did for Vortex Buzz!
Two acts to watch out for I reckon! Great evening guys, many thanks! xx
