Last rehearsal before band gig for closing event of Portsmouth's Mental Health week Views: 2229

The Bluesman, Si the bass and I met last night for a last minute run through of the set for Friday. No batteur cos he's swanning it off somewhere lovely like Morrocco or something, lucky chap! All went well which was a surprise since I have managed to come down with a cold and am again spending time sounding like Mariella Frostrup crossed with a rather large toad. I think the organisational frenzy of this weeks events has taken it's toll on my immune system!
This week has been rather fabulous overall though. The conference was really well attended, my anxiety had begun to decrease once all the presenters turned up. Will Slocombe our keynote speaker who is writing the book Bordering on Bedlam previous mentioned and inspiration of song of same name, delivered a really interesting and thought provoking speech about the history of insanity and how that relates to Borderline Personality Disorder. The three workshops got great feedback and the Fareham and Gosport Mind group were absolutely splendid doing their dramatisations around stigma. I love it when you can laugh at a serious subject and learn something at the same time. Most brilliant!
Human library was yesterday's event which was quiet but that was mainly due to the position of the stand which was out of the way and not very noticeable. We had some really interesting visitors none the less and the books were kept busy alot of the time. The feedback from this was amazing so even though we did'nt have loads of people we made a serious impact on those who came. Today is the open day at St James Hospital which is kicking off with a talk about the history of care delivered there over the last 200 or so years. Very interesting.
So, i am not going to talk much over the next few days to save the voice for Friday (HA! AS IF I could keep quiet that long!)
