Fairport Convention groupie and a banging gig at the Golden Lion. Views: 2951

If you've been reading this blog for a while you'll know that I have come closer to being a groupie to Fairport Convention http://www.fairportconvention.com/ than I ever have to any other band. Well, my groupie status took a real bound forward on Monday. I was in attendance, with many other marvellous folk as it was sold out, at the Folk Club http://www.focsle.org.uk/SCoFF/forestfolk/ in Boarhunt for the aforementioned gig. When the first set was over I approached Ric (best fiddle player alive) and enquired, very politely like, if they were to be playing 'Danny Jacks Reward' in the second set. This is one of the two pirate themed instrumentals written by Mr Marvellous Ric and can be heard on the Festival Bell album which I reccommend you buy immediately! Anyway, 'yes' I was told and we had a chat about it and I told him about it being my favourite piece of music currently and possibly the best piece of music ever written. Well, I told him the first part of that not the second part, I wasn't quite that obsequious as to get to that point would actually only have been one stop away from dribbling!
So, the second set well underway and Ric announces said piece, 'goody' thinks I and settled back for the musical weaving to begin. They played it so well and it was so loved by myself that the emotion rose to the surface and I actually screamed at the end and shot both my hands up in the air! Then, to make me even more unnecessary Ric pointed at me and mouthed 'That was for you!' I swear I nearly fainted with joy! As usual lots of hugging and kissing at the end and a new album to add to the collection. Made my week it really did!
As if that wasn't enough excitement for one week WB were out as usual for our monthly sojourn at the Golden Lion in Southwick and the pub was full of people almost all of whom had come to see us! There was dancing, laughing, loads of audience interaction, the warm feeling I get when I know people have gone out of their ways to come and see us and loads and loads of lovely comments at the end of the night. Oh so much joy in two days, this is going to be a hard week to follow!
