Diva in a jumpsuit, playing to the crowd at the Portsmouth Hoy Views: 2562

I felt like Margot from 'The Good Life', beautiful new black jumpsuit, that holds itself up due to the fierce nature of elastic, with flared trousers and waves of chiffon providing a flattering shroud for any 'problem' areas! A beautiful matching scarf that reaches down to my hips even when wrapped all the way round my neck, no jewellery just the freshly washed hair, red lips and tattoo. I was in full Diva mode last night setting off to Poole to play and wasn't even put off by the numerous attempts the scarf made to strangle me throughout the evening!
We were playing at The Portsmouth Hoy http://www.portsmouthhoy.co.uk in Poole, a wonderful establishment that has the feel of a ship about it, all wood pannelling and windy walkways with weird little alcoves to sit in. Really atmospheric place just my sort of pub. We were situated by the window at the front and the sea was behind us. Lots of diners in when we arrived and lots more throughout the evening. It was a jumping joint and we were well appreciated by the audience we could see on the first deck!
The first set was a little more sedate than the second, which often seems to be the case with us something we may tweak a little. We haven't done a duo gig in a while so there was some nervousness about how dependant we may have become on the others but we both held our own and did pretty damn fine! I was particularly pleased with my bass playing which was mostly adequate, especially since I'd only just learnt three of the songs it is needed for. Andy's fingers were lording it up as always with his marvellous solos and my voice did a pretty good job too. I took turns being me and Ella Fitzgerald, Bessie Smith, Rosa Henderson, Kirsty Maccoll, Joan Armatrading, Sandy Denny.... it's starting to feel like all these wonderful women are becoming a bit more a part of me so that I can call on them when I want particular sounds for different WB songs. Loving that!
Anyway, we had a great time and would recommend a trip to the Portsmouth Hoy, tis an inn of the finest calibre and the smell of food made it difficult to sing for salivating! Look forward to playing there again!
