Small steps to mend my broken heart being a workaholic and all! Views: 3002

I like to walk to rehearsals, unless it's pouring with rain, so Andy comes over here and we walk there together. On Tuesday I was so tired and wishing, just a little bit, that I could just stay home and veg out! I am so glad I didn't! We'd all decided that we have to start heavily rehearsing the songs we are about to record. It was a difficult choice, as you know, deciding which songs to put in the first album and which to leave for the second, so it feels a bit hard to leave some of the songs alone for a while and concentrate on the earlier ones. Nevertheless, this we did. We chose 4 songs that we don't perform as regularly and played them over and over for the first half of the rehearsal. Whoever said practice makes perfect was a bit wise cos the songs do tighten up audibly in a short space of time. Then we wanted to do another arrangement recording so we worked on 'Small Steps' which is a fun song about the strange things one might do in order to mend a broken heart! The result is a much more laid back song than I thought, it moves along apace but is quite reggae bluesy in the recording. I played around alot with the melody too as it has always been a bit plain in the performance before. Not any more Laughing

Whilst trying to restrict ourselves to keeping things going for the album recording I have also finished another song this week. I have been chastised for it but what's a girl to do if it comes along and presents itself? It was a half finished song called 'Workaholic', which I had the words for but only verse music. Then I was noodling about one afternoon and happened upon a set of chords that really needed something added to them and realised that they would do the chorus for that song. So I had to change the key of the original music to make them fit together but they do and now the song is ready to work up to performance. Will be a while before I can persuade any of the others to learn anything new (due to aforesaid album rehearsing) but now we have nearly a second album's worth of original material too! Hurrah!

I fear the guys will soon be at the stage where they eye me suspiciously when they see me coming - Is she going to work me like a dog again!?

Anyway, want to hear the whole album previewed? Then come along to The Golden Lion on Tuesday the 28th when we will be playaing all the songs that will be going on there and a few more for good measure. Anyone who can guess all the names of the album songs correctly who is at the gig will get a drink off me!
