Chilly blues jam and rock n roll piano Views: 2129

Out for the monthly airing at Andy's blues jam at the Florence Arms in Southsea. No keys in sight and hardly anyone brave enough to venture out into the chilly wilderness of Portsmouth. There were about 9 musicians today and only 3 or 4 audience! Very high quality audience though so no grumbling. Despite the lack of people we managed to make as much noise as usual with Tim (marvellous bassist) managing to keep the enthusiasm of the guitarists under check so we didn't disappear in a wall of sound. Nice way to go though!
I had a bash at Work song - white middle class version - which is a Nina Simone song I love. Very nervous singing it so not quite at full welly and doing anything in a jam is always a bit tricky I find, when singing, as the hooks and signals that I use to navigate my way round songs aren't always as obvious when playing with people you don't always play with.
WB rehearsals this week have been primarily just going over songs we haven't played as often and I have taken it into my head to become more proficient at blues and rock and roll piano so poor Andy has been very kindly accompanying me with rock n roll, which is not his favourite genre! My hand aches from the double bass lines required to get the feel, I am developing a claw! Rock n roll RSI, bring it on baby!
