Charlie Wright's evening of blues, whiskey and wine Views: 1906

Most remiss of me to wait almost a week to blog about last weekend's gig at Charlie Wright's in Hoxton! Life is so busy, hardly time to shake a tail feather these day! It was a terrific evening all told, hosted by the terrific Kathleen Pearson, a most marvellous crooner of blues in Kat & Co who were wonderful at the Bullfrog Blues club earlier this year. The venue is really great, really dark and seedy whilst at the same time managing to be up-market and bang on trend. Really laid back, the perfect place to play blues. We were late going on due to issues with getting the venue open, but once sound checked and shoes off, in my case, we played a long set of mainly blues style songs. There was room for me to move away from the piano so I had my two mic set up, I prefer that now as it means I can actually perfom the songs I am not playing on and am not trapped behind the piano. We went down well and look forward to playing there again next year sometime.

The venue puts an acoustic act on during the day and then has a heavier blues band in the evneing. On this occasion it was the Blues Boy Kings, a band from Lincoln way who can be viewed strutting their marvellous bluesy stuff here http://www.facebook.com/bluesboy.kings We didn't need much persuasion to stay and watch their set and I had a good old bop with a couple of whiskeys and glasses of the red stuff. It was a memorable evening for one poor lady, she was sat on the same chair as my unwatched handbag and wishing to make her more comfortable I went to pull the bag out from behind her. The motion tipped my full glass of wine towards her and all the way down her back. Never seen anyone move so fast! Oh, I did feel guilty! I then chased her with tissues as she fled to the loos then came back to the bar and bemoaned the loss of wine whilst trying to decide how to make things better. I decided that I must also harrass the poor woman in the loos and tried to give her my contact details so she could bill me for any cleaning or indeed replacement clothing. She was very gracious as she dried her cardigan under the hand drier and declined my offer, assuring me that she had forgiven me. I still feel the pangs of shame......Embarassed
