New Years jamming with One Meatball that Hit the Road Jack! Views: 3325

A truly musical beginning to the New Year has been had by WB so far. New Years day and half the band (Me and Andy) were happy to be guests at Shep's www.shepwoolley.co.uk annual jam at the Pheoenix pub in Southsea. It was a lovely afternoon, following on from the radio interview on Xmas day Shep played two Elvis tracks just for me, Just want to be your Teddy bear and Loving you, both from the album I'd mentioned on the show. I have to admit to a slightly slushy moment, it is really nice to be sung to.
Andy and I did a few songs ending with Kirsty MacColl's in these shoes, always a winner. My voice was frog like due to another poxy cold (not actually poxy or I wouldn't have gone out!) but hopefully the blues numbers we did hid it well enough.
Last night was a rare chance for the WB band to taste my cooking. It doesn't happen often but at least once a year I like to dust off the old saucepans, whip up a bit of a sauce and inflict the subsequent concoctions on passers by. Not a bad bit of scram, if I say so myself and the meal was accompanied by a truly brilliant radio show by Ashwyn Smith on Gateway 97.8fm www.digitalblues.co.uk as part of which he very wisely played 'Play me some blues'. I was so nervous in the time before the song was played, the play list was such high quality and every song was really brilliant. It was humbling to be included and we were all dead chuffed. Maybe not humbling actually cos I think I have a bit of a swagger today!
Anyway, another marvellous intertwining of events from these few days is that Shep played a lovely song called 'One Meatball' on New Years Day and as he was playing it I motioned to Andy that we could do that one. He clearly agreed and arrived for dinner yesterday having learnt the song, I downloaded the lyrics and said song is now ready for action on Sunday at the Blues Jam. Whilst singing this I decided it was pretty much the same as 'Hit the Road Jack' launched into that and voila! there is now a segue of some note ready for airing at the Auckland Arms in Southsea - Blues Jam, first one of 2013, 1230pm - be there! xxx
