A jolly at large on a day so grey, we went off to play on Radio Wey Views: 1988

The jam was very groovy last weekend, people turn out in their droves to play and listen and the pub was suitably squashy with bodies. Lots of lovely music as always. Andy n I did the two new ones so they were introduced to the live set in a most irregular way, always scary playing new songs live for the first time. My cough is still performing well and singing irritates it which is really not very helpful! Regulars Glen and Jason AKA 'Message from Avalon' were there playing their usual set of the late great Missisippi John Hurt material and talking to Glen afterwards he reminded me that we had previously said we could do some ragtime stuff. Quite right, so I've promised to re-learn 'The Entertainer' by Scott Joplin so we will be able to play it one day at the jam. I hope you've started practicing Glen, I played it though a couple of times on the Sunday evening and once I'd stopped laughing hysterically, decided it would be probably be a couple of months before I'm up for performance!
Since then WB have met for a very sweet rehearsal to prepare for our jolly out last night at Radio Wey www.radiowey.co.uk for a live in the studio session www.thebluessession.co.uk The wonderful DJs (are they still called that, shouldn't it be CDJs or DLJs?) Martin and Heather were really friendly and the whole evening was fun and, most importantly, warm in every way. We played 6 songs live and in addition Martin played two tracks from the album. In between times there was much time for chatting and jokery and the strategic plugging of CDs (did I mention you can buy one here?). Overally a pretty groovacious evening and my cough was wecomed as part of the overall liveness of the session. Afterwards Simon (bass) mentioned quite casually that despite the rather impressive back catalogue of previous bands, signed and unsigned, he's been in he had never done a live in the studio session before. We was gobsmacked. So now we've broken Simon's cherry we will be ready for the next live in the studio session currently planned for Nottingham in March. Suitable ribbing and deconstruction of the gig was conducted on the journey home and over coffee in the almost regular haunt of Fleet services. Lovely!
