Skunk Funk, Blues Jam and more recordings, busy busy! Views: 2716

Bit of a busy one this week. Saturday night me and Andy trotted off to Olivers bar in Gosport to catch a bit of Skunk Funk http://www.skunkfunk.co.uk/SkunkFunk/Home.html acid jazz and funk band. They've got a new line up which is working most marvellously! Personally known to me are Andy Thomas who plays a lovely tenor sax and Rick Anderton - the drummer most cool. He was a real blast from the past as hadn't seen him since the long gone days of Terminal Blues - (anyone remember them?) now sadly defunct blues band I was a sort of well behaved groupie for in the late 80s. (Did you note that? Well behaved!) They played some great covers and the energy in the room was really vibrant, good turn out too! Definately worth a view when they frequent a tavern near you.
Sunday was the monthly invasion of the Florence pub in Southsea for the Blues jam. Very enjoyable as usual and many of the frequent rabble attended for music making purposes. Cath http://www.missdemena.co.uk/ sang her lovely song, name escapes me, which I love to do harmonies for and Andy plays solo to Simon's (as you know, bassist chap of extraordinary talent currently to be seen frequenting our band outings!) rhythm guitar. Blackie (drummer of the same type) also attended so we had a bit of a WB the band outing. Very enjoyable indeed if a little hectic as they played 'In these Shoes' so fast I barely had time to breath!
So on to Tuesday and our recording rehearsals, continuing the journey towards album of the year
This week we worked on Pessimistic Optimist. Piano down first, then percussion, then vocals and only at this stage did we decide we'd done it too slow! I had time for a cup of tea in between phrases. Never mind, said we, 'tis only for arrangement purposes and we have learnt that this tempo is too slow. Very valuable information prior to studio arrival. Anyway, guitar and bass were duly recorded and another song is almost ready for the off! Just a bit of harmony for good measure and that'll be it. There are some photos of this session on the gallery page, do take a peek!
Much love xxxx
