Being sleazy at lunchtime in a week of gigs like buses! Views: 2311

Phew, what a week! People often ask me how much we gig and I generally say about 3 times a month (not enough but going in the right direction!). The only thing is, these gigs don't come along in reasonable well spaced time frames, they're a bit like buses. Nothing for a couple of weeks then three come along at once! This week has seen us strutting our funky stuff at the Golden Lion as we have been wont to do for the last 10 months or so and The Piranha Bar (see previous blogs for links) as a band AND the duo version were out last night for Tongues and Grooves where the featured poet was great. Paul Birtell was the epitome of the grumpy old man but lovely and his poetry is punchy, gritty and really funny. See http://www.paulbirtill.co.uk/ for more! He was supported by Mike Loveday editor of 14 magazine http://www.fourteenmagazine.com/ whose poetry was also great! A literary marvel of an evening! We were the musical offering obviously and I made Andy grimace many times by forcing him to play folk songs
Eric Bogle's 'No Man's Land' went down really well so glad I did!
Earlier in the day we'd had the monthly jam at the Auckland Arms, Southsea's most friendly pub! It was heaving as always and Andy shouted me up first so we did a few blues numbers all of which were sleazy and it was only 1230 in the afternoon. I was surprised how easy it was to sing those songs in the daylight, I was telling a woman I was her mans lover, I was bemoaning my empty bed and encouraging anyone listening to love me like a man, but enough of my private life....
So I played the piano loads and was especially pleased with myself for my melodious accompanings of 'Summertime', the first time I was offered a solo I went blank and shook my head in a flouncy way then after that I just sort of muscled my way in if I felt brave enough. Really enjoyed it!
