An evening at the Square and Compass, Worth Matravers Views: 4280

It's just as well I wasn't driving for the Friday evening gig we were going to in Dorset. Earlier in the day I had been explaining to a friend where the gig was and told him it was near Lymington. Andy drove me and my gear (and his gear, would have been a bit silly not to have taken that) and as we passed the turning for said town (rather slowly due to the light rush hour conditions) I inquired why we hadn't turned left. Managing to avoid snorts of derision, Andy patiently explained that Worth Matravers was near Swanage, further having to explain that yes, this was past Poole and Bournemouth. Duly corrected I nursed my geographically damaged pride and dozed off.
I had forgotten that the venue is so beautiful! There is a dinosaur museum, the bar is a sort of stable door and the small seating areas are full of rustic charm. Here's the website for a further gander should you wish it. http://squareandcompasspub.co.uk/ They have regular great gigs there, all sorts of marvelous musical types have gone before, so we were very happy to be out strutting our funky stuff in such a picturesque and noteworthy pub. The audience was a listening one, which was also very gratifying. I did not feel on fine form, particularly in the first set, my mojo was somewhat missing but began to reappear halfway through the second set. One eagle eared and wise audience member said he enjoyed 'Do it alone' and 'Sally Latino' most out of the evening which was very pleasing as these are songs we have tended to drop of late. My favourite song of the evening was probably the 'In your eyes' 'Centerpiece' segue which is always fun to do and makes me feel like a proper musician
every time!
