You'll notice that I've included the url in the title this time, thanks for reminding me to do this Theresa! (Theresa used to sing for Burnt Ice but now lives in Denmark ) The September line up for The Bullfrog Blues Club Thursday 6th Sept. Earl Gaines and Al Garner. Backed by Mo'Indigo, Earl and Al are two great recording stars from the Excello stable, one of the great US postwar R&B labels. £5 *Wednesday* 12th Sept. Kent Duchaine. This great delta blues player travels the world with Leadbessie his national steel guitar. He's supported by Claude Bourbon, a french guitarist now based in Portsmouth. Kent Duchaine is really worth seeing I've had the pleasure of working with him three times (Twice at the Wedgewood rooms and once on Hayling Island) and every time he's put on a powerful show, with loads of stories about the songs Robert Johnson etc., many got directly from Johnny Shines (who Kent worked with towards the end of his life). £5 Thursday 20th Sept. Burnt Ice Andy Broad's blues band Burnt Ice have been producing their own funky brand of blues for nigh on 15 years so it's about time you went to see them! £3 Thursday 27th Sept. The Rhino Men Ian Duck's (ex Elton John!) slide guitar combines with Clive's rock licks to front this excellent blues-rock band. £3 The Bullfrog blues meets Thursdays at South Parade Pier and is becoming one of the best places to see rhythm and blues on the south coast. NB. **** Kent Touchiness gig is on a WEDNESDAY! **** News about the site: Since the last newsletter I've added some more to the mp3 page, tidying up the layout and adding some more mp3's. You can now listen to some music by Big Easy. Big Easy have finally sent me some info, so there something to read on the Big Easy page now. Unfortunately due to a dodgy CD which could only be read in the drive that wrote it the pictures have been delayed. But I received 2 massive emails from Tim day before yesterday so the pics should be up soon. Fairly soon I shall be adding some maps to the Bullfrog Blues Club page to assist people from outside Portsmouth in find the venue at South Parade Pier. ( Or maybe confuse them you want to see the maps I've drawn!) Southsea Folk Festival: The folk festival I mentioned in the previous newsletter went well. As well as being enjoyable it was a huge learning experience for all involved and when this new knowledge is applied to next year's event an amazing show is to be expected. Formal Bit: If you have received this mailing you either have left your email address on the Portsmouth Blues Site, Signed the guest book or are a personal friend or contact of Andy Broad.
